A quickly growing large fire in the Parkland area prompted an urgent evacuation warning from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office Friday.

The sheriff’s office said people should “Evacuate NOW” if they are in the area bounded by 108th Street South, 111th Street South, and Sheridan Avenue South.

The brush fire is burning along SR 512 and the SR-7 interchange, fire officials said, WB at MP 2.22 near SR 7/Pacific Ave.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported the fire at around 1:58 pm on Friday.

The right lanes of WB SR-512 were blocked; according to WSDOT, the freeway has fully reopened.

The fire started to spread into the nearby residential areas before Central Pierce fire crews arrived on scene, Washington State Patrol (WSP) said.

Two outbuildings and some abandoned cars were destroyed. No injuries have been reported, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

As of 2:50 p.m., the fire was reportedly contained to the area, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

Crews will remain on scene for an extended period, monitoring for hot spots and extinguishing any remaining fire, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
