Amtrak is set to debut its new Airo trainsets in the Pacific Northwest, giving Amtrak Cascades customers the first chance in the nation to experience the company’s latest trains.

Starting Sept. 30, two Airo trainsets will launch on Amtrak Cascades with four daily trips.

The initial rollout includes trips connecting Vancouver, B.C., Seattle, Portland, and Eugene, Oregon, and Amtrak will add more trainsets through early 2027.

Amtrak Cascades customers can expect more seats, updated amenities, enhanced accessibility and panoramic windows as more Airo trains come online.

The new trains feature the Amtrak Cascades color palette and are designed with inspiration from the Cascade mountain range.

“The arrival of the new Airo fleet marks an exciting moment for the Amtrak Cascades and passenger rail in the Pacific Northwest,” Amtrak Interim President Byl Herrmann said. Herrmann said the new trains reflect Amtrak’s broader effort to modernize and expand passenger rail service.

Oregon Department of Transportation Interim Director Chris Warner said, “Oregon continues to reach record train ridership, and we are proud to partner with Amtrak to bring their new trains to the Pacific Northwest.” Warner said the route allows travelers to avoid traffic and enjoy beautiful scenery.

“These new Amtrak Cascades trains are a game-changer for rail travel in the Pacific Northwest,” said Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Julie Meredith.

Features include more than 300 seats per trainset with ergonomic seating, Wi-Fi, individual power outlets, digital displays, accessible seating, automated steps, and six restrooms with touchless controls. The onboard cafe will serve food and beverage options inspired by the region.

Schedules for the first Airo trips will be:

  • Northbound: Train 516 from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C. at 8:30 a.m.; Train 508 from Eugene to Seattle at 4:30 p.m.
  • Southbound: Train 503 from Seattle to Eugene at 7:10 a.m.; Train 519 from Vancouver, B.C. to Seattle at 4:45 p.m.
  • Amtrak has ordered eight Airo trainsets for Amtrak Cascades, with plans for them to ultimately replace the existing fleet.
