A man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation after Tukwila police said he was found walking naked near an elementary school shortly after school let out.
The Tukwila Police Department said that at around 2:30 p.m., an officer saw a “totally nude adult male acting erratically” while walking northbound on Tukwila International Boulevard.
Police said numerous children were in the area on foot because school had just let out, and it was “obvious" that the man was in the middle of a mental crisis.
As the man approached South 148th Street near an elementary school, officers detained him without incident and called for the fire department and an aid car. An officer retrieved a tarp to cover the man until he could be taken to an ambulance gurney, police said.
Police said the man became combative and spit on a patrol sergeant while struggling against restraints. He was ultimately transported to the hospital as an involuntary commitment for a mental health evaluation, according to the department.
The department said officers had previously contacted the same man in relation to a theft he was suspected of. In that earlier incident, police said he was also acting erratically, was involuntarily committed due to his mental state, and was arrested via citation.
