The company said it would provide updated information if the closure status changes.

Chip’s Casino in Lakewood plans to permanently close Nov. 30, a move expected to affect about 131 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice filed with the Washington Employment Security Department.

Maverick Washington LLC sent the notice, dated Sept. 28, to the state agency. The casino is located at 8200 Tacoma Mall Blvd.

The notice says the entire site will close and that the job losses are not the result of relocating or contracting out the company’s operations or employee positions. A list attached to the filing includes positions such as table games dealers, security specialists, cage cashiers, servers, cooks and managers.

The company also listed several other Washington casinos slated to close:

  • Macau Casino in Lakewood
  • Palace Casino in Lakewood
  • Great American Casino in Everett
  • All Star Casino in Silverdale
  • Coyote Bobs Casino in Kennewick
  • Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco
  • Casino Caribbean in Yakima

Some affected employees at Chip’s Casino are represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 117, the notice said.

The planned closure could be delayed or may not happen if the business transitions to a new owner or operator, according to the company. Maverick Washington LLC is currently involved in bankruptcy proceedings, and a potential ownership or operator change is being considered as part of that process.

The company said it would provide updated information if the closure status changes.
