Did you see it?

Hundreds of people across Washington reported seeing a fireball in the sky early Friday morning.

The fireball was also spotted in Oregon, Idaho, and Canada, according to reports received by the American Meteor Society (AMS).

One viewer, Andrew Davidson, was on his way home from a paddleboarding meetup to watch the bioluminescence at Mystery Bay on the Olympic Peninsula.

On the way back, he stopped at a gas station in Chimacum to get some snacks.

At about 12:45 a.m., he spotted the fireball.

"A massive meteor streamed across the sky, emitting a long trail and two bright flashes. Our car was facing southeast along WA-19 towards Bainbridge Island," Davidson said.

The video shows the fireball descending before going out of sight, followed by two bright flashes.

Among the nearly 250 reports AMS had received by noon Friday, the locations in Washington ranged across the state -- from the Puget Sound region, to Vancouver and Yakima, to Spokane Valley and Wenatchee, to Blaine and Port Angeles.

The AMS said seeing a fireball is "extremely rare and often a once-in-a-lifetime event."

The organization takes reports of fireballs so it can be alerted to potentially scientifically significant events.
