Police said they would not release any further information at this time.

Chehalis police served a search warrant Monday at Green Hill School as they investigate a report that a staff member may have smuggled contraband into the facility and distributed it to residents.

The Chehalis Police Department said it received a referral July 28 from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families regarding the potential criminal activity.

Police said Green Hill School officials told the department it would need to submit a public records request through DCYF to obtain information needed for the investigation.

The department submitted the request, but said DCYF denied it Aug. 19. Police then sought and received a search warrant for the records, according to a news release.

Police served the warrant Aug. 25 and said they are awaiting a response.

“At this time, we do not know why DCYF referred potential criminal activity involving a staff member to our agency and then refused to provide us with the information necessary to properly conduct an investigation,” Chehalis Police Chief Randy Kaut said in the release.

The suspected staff member’s name is being withheld because the investigation remains ongoing.

Police said they would not release any further information at this time.
