Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a proclamation designating Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton 9 to 5 Day.
In a post shared on Facebook, Gov. Lee shares a signed proclamation that Sept. 25 is to be observed as a day to celebrate and honor the storytelling, cultural impact and generous spirit of Tennessee native Dolly Parton. The post reads:
From the mountains of East Tennessee to audiences around the world, Dolly Parton’s talent, generosity, and love for our state have inspired generations. Today, we celebrate her extraordinary legacy and all she has done to make Tennessee proud.
Today, Nashville celebrates Dolly Parton's legacy with performances, themed food and beverages, movie screenings and plenty of pink. The events are held on Sept. 25 in honor of Dolly's smash hit "9 to 5," the title track she wrote for the film of the same name where she made her big-screen debut alongside Hollywood legends Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.
The proclamation lists Dolly's many contributions to her home state both through her humanitarian efforts including her Imagination Library and the deeply-felt impact of her music and performances.
Today, the Dollywood Foundation's Give Like Dolly campaign kicks off today in Middle Tennessee, encouraging donors to support four areas of need close to Dolly's heart: Help a Child Succeed, Help Someone Heal, Help a Neighbor in Need and Help Someone Find Their Song. The campaign supports 20 local nonprofits and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Donations can be made to Giving9to5.com, and the full list of participating organizations can be found here.
