Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross arrested in Miami Beach on domestic violence charges.
Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross was arrested Thursday on domestic violence-related charges stemming from an incident in August, according to Miami-Dade County court records.
Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts, was arrested by the Miami Beach Police Department and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
According to an arrest affidavit, the woman went to the Miami Beach Police Department on Monday, Sept. 29, to report a domestic violence incident she said happened Aug. 28. She told investigators she and Roberts had been in a relationship for about a year and were living together at the time.
The woman said Roberts woke her up that morning and was angry because she had been tagged in an Instagram photo. She told police he questioned her about lying to him before slapping her in the face.
The affidavit says the woman alleged Roberts struck her in the chest several times and choked her by grabbing and twisting the collar of her hoodie, making it difficult for her to breathe. She also said he grabbed her ponytail, slammed her into a wall and struck her in the face, leaving her with a busted lip.
Roberts then allegedly turned on the shower and tried to spray her with the shower head, according to the report.
The woman said she left the residence after gathering her belongings.
Roberts voluntarily surrendered at the Miami Beach Police Department on Thursday. He is charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery.
