Hollywood actress Hayden Panettiere’s death has been ruled accidental due to the toxic effects of fentanyl and other drugs, according to a report by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office said an autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death.
Fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine were found in her system and contributed to her death, according to the coroner's report.
On Aug. 16, police responded to a Greenville apartment after receiving a call about an unresponsive person, identified as Panettiere. An incident report said EMS continued lifesaving efforts “for an extended amount of time” before declaring her dead at 2:31 p.m.
The incident report identified two men, Zack and Brian Hickerson, as witnesses. Investigators spoke with them while EMS crews were treating Panettiere, and both remained at the apartment before being escorted into the hallway after she was pronounced dead.
Before her death, Panettiere released her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” in which she detailed her experiences with child stardom, addiction and recovery, postpartum depression, trauma, domestic abuse, loss and the pressures of Hollywood.
Panettiere, known for her roles in the television series “Heroes” and “Nashville” and the film “Ice Princess," leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter she shares with Wladimir Klitschko.
