Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial will return to court for a remarkable sixth day of deliberations Thursday, after they've now deadlocked twice without reaching a unanimous decision.

With a potential mistrial hanging in the balance, Criminally Obsessed host Anne Emerson is joined live by forensic psychologist Dr. Leslie Dobson and former prosecutor Tommy Pope to discuss what's next if that happens, and to tackle some of the more difficult lingering questions from this high-profile case.

The jury has now told Judge William Sullivan on two consecutive days that it cannot agree on whether Clancy was criminally responsible when she killed her three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, in 2023. Each time, Sullivan instructed jurors to return to their jury room and continue deliberating.

On Wednesday, the judge added what's known in Massachusetts as a Tuey-Rodriguez instruction, which is a special set of instructions commonly referred to as a “dynamite charge” or "Allen charge" in courtrooms across the country. It's often a last resort to encourage jurors to reach a verdict in hopes of avoiding a mistrial.

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, does not dispute killing her children. Her defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and other severe mental health problems, while prosecutors contend she understood what she was doing. Medical experts for both sides offered sharply different conclusions during the trial.

What do you think will happen? Join Anne, Tommy and Leslie at 7 p.m. EDT to join the discussion.
