Kelly Koopmans anchors KOMO News weekdays at 3:30 and 4 p.m.
Kelly joined KOMO in 2012 as the weekend morning anchor and weekday morning reporter. She began anchoring KOMO News Weekday Mornings in 2014 and held that position for 12 years until she joined the evening anchor team in 2026. Kelly has won several Emmy awards for her reporting and anchoring.
Kelly has a passion for connecting with people through deep conversation and volunteers her time as an emcee for several community groups.
She co-hosted the podcast Hard Turn with Mary Nam, focusing on local people navigating a major change in life.
Before joining KOMO, Kelly worked at KVAL-TV in Eugene, Oregon, where she did everything from weather to producing, anchoring, and editing.
She graduated from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and started her journalism career behind the scenes at CNN's American Morning in New York. Kelly continued her education at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she earned her master’s degree.
Kelly resides in Bellevue with her three children. She is passionate about cancer research, mental health, and helping others navigate grief following her husband's passing from cancer in 2024.
