Seattle’s August calendar is filling up with live music, hands-on arts education, film and community conversation, and food-and-wine events that also raise money for local causes.

On Aug. 9, Mehfil Nights presents - Sufi and Ghazal music at Town Hall Seattle. Organizers describe it as a “soulful evening” celebrating Sufi music and Ghazal, with live performances highlighting centuries-old Sufi traditions and the poetic themes of Ghazals, including love and longing. Guests are encouraged to dress in whites and beiges to match the traditional Mehfil atmosphere. The event is for ages 13 and up, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Seattle Creates Presents: SPIN – Art of the Jam (Career Pathways for DJs) is a hands-on workshop aimed at introducing Seattle creatives to the professional world of DJing. The workshop is led by industry experts and includes live demonstrations, Q&A, and guidance on equipment, skills and career pathways. It is part of the Seattle Creates series focused on education, mentorship and community connection for local artists. Also on Aug. 13, the American Motherhood Tour will bring a community screening of No Country for Mothers, a documentary focused on the realities, pressures and culture wars surrounding American motherhood. The screening is hosted locally by Dr. Laura Marie, a Seattle psychologist, author and advocate for maternal wellbeing. Organizers say the event is designed for moms, caregivers, allies and community members, and attendees do not need to be parents to participate. The screening also highlights the mission of Moms First, a national nonprofit advocating for paid leave, affordable childcare and other family-supporting policies. Wine events follow on Aug. 14 and 15 with the Auction of Washington Wines.
The Winemaker Picnic & Barrel Auction is scheduled for Aug. 14 at Chateau Ste. Michelle and is described as a casual, family-friendly celebration with Washington winemakers, food trucks, live music and barrel tastings. The Gala is set for Aug. 15 at The SOMM Hotel & Spa and is billed as a black-tie event with a chef-curated dinner, premium wine pairings, a live auction and an industry celebration. Organizers say the Auction of Washington Wines has supported Washington’s wine community since 1988 and has raised more than $72 million to date for local beneficiaries.
The fundraising supports Seattle Children’s Uncompensated Care Fund, Seattle Children’s Hospital clinics in Eastern Washington, Washington State University’s Viticulture & Enology Program, and VITAL Wines, which provides accessible healthcare for vineyard workers and their families. Also on Aug. 15, Hotel Sorrento will host A Ferragosto: An Evening of Leisure, Pleasure & La Dolce Vita, inspired by Italy’s Ferragosto tradition. The event begins with a four-course Italian dinner paired with curated wines, then continues into an open-air garden party with aperitivo, Italian-inspired bites and live music. Later in the month, the Encanto Arts Waterfront Musical Festival is scheduled for Aug. 22 on the Seattle waterfront. The free, public event is planned as a full-day outdoor celebration of Latin music, culture and community, featuring live performances from Encanto Arts musicians, vocalists and youth ensembles, along with dance showcases, cultural storytelling and interactive family-friendly activities.
