More than 7 million Americans ages 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and experts say that number could nearly double by 2060.

Health experts say recognizing the early signs and risks of Alzheimer’s is critical and can help people access care, support, and treatment options sooner.

In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Day, Dr. Elizabeth Edgerly, vice president of the Alzheimer’s Association, joined ARC Seattle to discuss why the number of older Americans living with Alzheimer’s is projected to rise, what early warning signs families should watch for, and how early detection can affect treatment.

Edgerly also addressed how to start a conversation about treatment when a loved one may be experiencing symptoms, the risk factors that can make someone more susceptible to Alzheimer’s, and what information about the disease does not get enough attention.

Watch ARC Seattle weekdays at 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on The CW Network.
